What is community acupuncture?
Community acupuncture is a form of acupuncture that is affordable and accessible to a wilder range of people. It is usually provided in a group setting, with multiple people receiving treatment in the same room. Community acupuncture may also offer shorter treatment sessions, with patients receiving acupuncture for 20 - 40 minutes instead of the typical 50-80 minutes.
At our community acupuncture Calgary clinic, we provide professional treatments for patients in one room that is equipped with two beds. Each appointment is up to 45 minutes. Community acupuncture is available on Friday and Sunday with Dr. Christina Lam.
What is the benefit of community acupuncture?
- accessible and affordable. We use a sliding scale payment system ranging from $60 to $75 per treatment. New patients pay an extra $20 for the initial assessment.
- Supportive environment. The group setting of community acupuncture creates a supportive environment, where patients can feel comfortable and at ease while receiving treatment. This can be particularly beneficial for people with anxiety or stress related conditions.
Do's and Don't's for community acupuncture
Do's
- Wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arms and legs, as this is where acupuncture points are typically located.
- Please bring a blanket or drape with you if you easily feel cold. You are welcome to use your earbuds or eye mask during the treatment.
- Be on time for your appointment. Being late to your appointment may result in reducing your treatment time.
- Empty your bladder before you head out for your appointment to avoid interruption during the treatment.
- Patients that are on blood thinner medication must consult their regular doctors before the acupuncture treatments.
Don'ts
- Do not receive acupuncture treatment with an empty stomach especially for the first visit. A small snack is recommended. Do not eat a big meal or drink alcohol before your treatment.
- Do not work out excessively right after the treatment.
- Do not expect immediate results from a single treatment. Acupuncture works best with a series of treatments overtime.
